The third Truth in my latest publication Leading with Courage and Vulnerability – The 5 Things You Should Know is: Embrace the Feminine. As women we have so many qualities that make us great leaders that we have either denied ourselves or lost touch with. Too often we are taught to model a masculine version of leadership – where doing, achieving and striving are core attributes. While there is nothing wrong with these attributes, they aren’t the natural position of many women. And so, when we try them on, they don’t fit and like a tight pair of shoes we start off feeling uncomfortable but over time become numb to the sensation of them not feeling right and so we persist despite the blisters!
Embracing the feminine is about appreciating who we are as women and the qualities we bring. As we cycle our way through the months and the seasons, we get to bring forth the many sides of us that make us multidimensional, all-encompassing and whole. When we deny ourselves this experience, we deny those around us the feminine energy that is required to bring balance into the world. Our presence and our state of being when we embrace the feminine holds a different but just as potent source of power that the masculine stance does.
You see when we get busy doing and forget about being we lose the real power that we hold. Our power lies in our bodies not in our minds. Our physical capacity to create, birth and nurture new life is also reflected in our consciousness. The potency of our source of power comes to be when we exert power with rather than power over.
Can you imagine what type of leader you could become if you tapped into this latent source of power that already resides within you? Having been stuck in that masculine mode of leadership myself I understand how exhausting and challenging it can be for women. It cost me a career that I loved. What I know now, which I didn’t know then, was that the more I tried to be like them the less effective and confident I became in my own ability to navigate my way around difficult and complex relationships. If I’d returned inwards instead of seeking outwards I would have found the path that led me to where I am now (because I know I am exactly where I am meant to be) more easily and with less stress and anxiety.
So, what’s one thing you can do to start the journey of embracing the feminine?
Besides joining me on Leadership. Done By Design (!) you can reconnect with you. You can stop looking outward for approval, guidance or wisdom and know that everything you need already lives in you, in your sacred body that is so deeply connected to the ebbs and flows of mother nature herself. Find some quiet time, take a bath, light some candles place your hands over your womb space and ask her what she wants you to know. You might need to listen intently to hear her but persist as she may have been waiting for this moment for quite some time!
I’d love to hear how you go and what messages you receive. Send me an email and let me know.
