I love a good synchronicity.
Yesterday afternoon I answered a bunch of questions from a magazine I often write for (Soulacy). One of the questions was “which book had a significant impact on your life or business?” I answered, “You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay.” I read it in my early thirties during a difficult time and as a result began the process of understanding that my experience of life was up to me. That it wasn’t tied up in fate, predetermined or dependent upon my external circumstances but that I was in control, and I could make decisions that would influence the way life unfolded for me.
Lightbulb moment.
I then went about the rest of my evening as usual and just before going to bed I wrote myself a to do list for today. Writing this week’s blog about affirmations was at the top of the list.
I woke up around 2:00am as I sometimes do and I popped in my headphones to listen to a podcast. I fell asleep and then woke up an hour or two later with a new podcast playing in my ears. It was day 6 of a 7-part series honouring the life and legacy of Louise Hay on the topic of the power of your spoken word. I woke up at the part where she started talking about the power of affirmations!
How fortuitous is that!
I love affirmations. I’m a great believer that we are what we say we are. That the words we hear, the beliefs we hold and the things we say about ourselves really do set the stage for how we experience life. Using affirmations provides us with a powerful tool to direct our beliefs, our thinking, and our self-talk to the outcomes we are seeking.
When we are looking for change or growth our natural default position is to stay where we are. It’s our way of staying safe in the world. Affirmations are a tool you can use to help move out of this state of paralysis and into action. When we take action, whether that be physical (by doing something different) or mental (by actively changing our thoughts) we put ourselves on a new trajectory. We start to create different outcomes to the ones we’ve experienced in the past.
Part of the magic of affirmations comes from the way we use them. The intention that sits behind them. This is why I love to couple affirmations with the energy of bringing in a new season. As women we are so connected to the ebbs and flows of the Earth that when we connect into these through rituals, we really do create magic!
The reality is there is a lot going on in the world right now and many of us will be feeling overwhelmed and out of balance. This is a perfectly normal reaction to such instability but when we remember who we are and where we come from, we can tap into our super powers and bring about hope.
This is the magic we are made for.
